Yokozuna: Kakuryu is coming off of his fourth career yusho, after a 13-2 showing in March. Hakuho is returning to the dohyo after sitting out in March. Kisenosato also sat out in March, but plans to return in May.


Ozeki: Takayasu was runner up for the second consecutive basho in March at 12-3, and could earn a yokozuna promotion with a yusho in May. Goeido finished 9-6 in March.


Sekiwake: Tochinoshin went 10-5, and received a special prize in March as a sekiwake. He won the yusho in January at 14-1 and received two special prizes, so he may be looking at a promotion to ozeki with a strong May basho. Ichinojo finished 9-6 in March.


Komusubi: Mitakeumi finished the March basho 7-8, but only slides down one rank from sekiwake. Endo went 9-6, and was awarded a special prize in March.


Maegashira 1: Tamawashi went 9-6 at maegashira 1 in March, but was not promoted. Kaisei went 12-3 in March, winning a special prize and was tied as runner-up.


Maegashira 2: Shohozan went 8-7 in March. Abi went 10-5 in March in only his second basho in makuuchi.


Maegashira 3: Daieisho went 9-6 in March. Yutakayama finished the March basho 10-5.


Maegashira 4: Chiyotairyu dropped from maegashira 1 after a 4-11 performance in March. Shodai went 7-8 at maegashira 4 in March.


Maegashira 5: Kotoshogiku the former ozeki went 6-9 in March. Ikioi went 11-4 in March, but was denied a special prize due to a day 15 loss.


Maegashira 6: Chiyoshoma moves four ranks up the banzuke after a 9-6 record in March. Takarafuji went 5-10 in March.


Maegashira 7: Ryuden went 8-7 in March. Chiyomaru was 6-9 after the March basho.


Maegashira 8: Yoshikaze finished the March basho 7-8. Kagayaki also went 7-8 in March.


Maegashira 9: Daishomaru went 9-6 in March. Hokutofuji had a reverse 6-9 mark in March.


Maegashira 10: Okinoumi went 7-8 in March. Takakeisho went kyujo on day 11, finishing 3-8-4.


Maegashira 11: Daiamami finished the March basho 10-5. Chiyonokuni went 7-8 in March.


Maegashira 12: Arawashi finished with a disappointing 2-13 record in March. Asanoyama went 8-7 in March.


Maegashira 13: Ishiura dropped one rank after finishing 7-8 in March. Aoiyama had a mirror 8-7 record in March.


Maegashira 14: Sadanoumi went 11-4 and won the juryo yusho in a playoff in March. Takekaze went 9-6 in juryo in March.


Maegashira 15: Tochiozan finished 5-10 in March. Kyokutaisei went 8-7 in juryo and will be making his makuuchi debut in May.


Maegashira 16: Myogiryu went 6-9 in March. Aminishiki went 8-7 in juryo in March.


Maegashira 17: Nishikigi went 5-10 in March.
