A 22 year-old former member of Kasugano Heya is suing the stablemaster and a 24 year-old former stablemate for incidents surrounding a 2014 assault. According to the lawsuit, the older rikishi struck the younger rikishi in September 2014. The incident resulted in the younger rikishi suffering a broken jaw, requiring 18 months of recovery. The injured rikishi is bringing suit against Kasugano for negligence, claiming that the stablemaster brought him to an acupressure and massage therapist, instead of a medical doctor.

The older rikishi has admitted to committing the offense in question, but disputes details of the incident, as well as the extent of the plaintiff's subsequent injuries. Kasugano has asked the court to dismiss the suit, claiming it was impossible to foresee the occurrence of the incident.
